Process | Study - Claire Forsyth
New work by featured artist Claire Forsyth, made on a residency at the Women’s Studio Workshop, New York (supported by Creative Scotland).
Responding to a set of new technical & environmental conditions, each image is informed by the one before. The surface of the print bed transfers to the picture plane. The ink-spattered packing tape stripped from a freshly printed screen, becomes the subject of the print that follows. The emulsion trough that coated the screen becomes the subject of the print as well as the object that produced it. A squeegee drips with uncaught ink. Images are formed spontaneously, then captured in a grid of halftone dots.
An investigation of process, sequentiality, procedures, tactility and the formal elements of print, Process | Study is a series of studies that explores how ‘things which are necessary to printmaking become interesting in themselves’ 1
