…that which withers in the age of mechanical reproduction is the aura of the work of art - Walter Benjamin
Alistair Gow creates art with a fascination for human experience and a love for playing with materials. Working with painting, printmaking and installation he strives to let each medium inform the other, for example, producing painterly prints. Craft and process are an increasingly important part of his practice.
Gow’s recent work has come from questioning how we share experiences through two-dimensional media and what is lost and gained by trying to do this. He is interested in the value of an art object and how this changes in different contexts. Print mediums in particular fascinate Gow, principally due to their multiple uses; from mass media, to limited edition artworks, used to inform, instruct and sell.
Alistair Gow graduated with a BA(Hons) in Painting and Printmaking from Glasgow School of Art in 2010. He lives and works in Glasgow.
